My care was excellent from all involved my appointment. As it always is.
It is very open spaced and everyone is willing to assist with direction and questions
My two main concerns...
1. Waiting for the operation I had to continually call to see when my operation was due. It took 6 months to get an answer. I called the waiting list office several times and left messages I never got a call back until I threatened to make a complaint.. Then I had several calls trying to contact me....
2. Who ever put the car park where it is and it's access to the main building needs to sort the access problem out... Totally illogical... Who,ever planned that needs a lesson in common sense.
Great Hospital it is such a shame they do not have a healthy option for out patients and visitors to eat. The options are terrible at the moment and with everybody being encouraged to eat a healthy diet surgery foods are not acceptable. A salad or baked potato bar should be installed!
A truly outstanding, spotlessly clean and efficient hospital. World class.
Wonderful new hospital, extremely clean, staff are wonderfully helpful and attentive.
Having heard all the negatives re teething problems, I have had nothing but the BEST care in the three times I've had to visit Southmead since it's opening last year. It's a very efficient system they run and there's no end of people willing to help out. We parked in the multi storey and were a bit concerned about getting soaked, as we'd walked to the main building the two previous times we were there: luckily we spotted the free shuttle bus this time - excellent idea! I can only speak as an outpatient, but I think it's marvellous and a credit to the NHS.
The parking facilities are virtually non-existant !! The few parking bays outside of the hospital main entrance appear to be marked as "Taxi" bays, as a disabled Blue badge holder
this means I have to arrange my carer to drive me to the hospital and then find somewhere to park and wait for me, there does not appear to be a designated dropping off space and with buses, taxis and private cars milling about I am of the opinion that it is only a matter of time before we have a serious accident.
I have been informed that a multistorey car park is scheduled for the next building phase which has yet to start....Building a major hospital without any parking facilities is totally unacceptable, did the designers forget that there would be patients ??
The hospital is fabulous but the parking is appaling and the staff spend too much time completing forms and paperwork. In this day and age it should be paperless.
Shockingly bad. I am now afraid to be treated at this hospital. Communication is terrible, including appointment letters not being sent and then being reprimanded by staff for not bringing the letter and the information requested in it! The environment is lovely, but you go through endless rounds of reporting to different desks and different waiting areas. As a result my notes went missing twice in one morning. I have waited and waited for a treatment date, have requested information and complained, but no one has responded and no one seems to care. The nursing staff openly admitted in a public area they did not know about the type of patients they were treating and had to check procedures with each other - it was alarming. I was scared.
I have already registered a complaint. The automatic response stated due to volume they could not respond within the usual two day window and had allowed themselves five days. I still have not had a response and we are well past five days.
